I have one gmail account that I check multiple times, I use it to get basically junk mail (all those stores trying to lure me in by offering deals). I rarely get spam there. But the other two get a lot. Actually, the reason I got one of them is long in the past, but there is a constant flow of email from I don't know where. Near as I can tell, someone went around and gave out the wrong gmail address, so is started getting it. It's all either mailing lists or someone sending out to their list of contacts. That gets spam, but not that much. The third is the one I gave my sister, and there's a trickle of real email there. But, the spam is amazing. Not only lots of it, but I swear it's related to my sister's use of gmail, since there is a lot of dog and health related stuff. Almost relevant, but I sure didn't ask for it. So I suspect gmail is more careful with accounts that get used regularly, but that's speculation.
