I agree with you Hugh.  Bringing up a simple RPN assembler for a new machine is
 usually pretty quick and then you can make it into what ever you need.

I used that feature of RPN assemblers with my hobby 9900 assembler to allow me
 to get things on and off the stacks with code macros called POP, PUSH, RPOP,
 and RPUSH,.

Very quickly the assembler code looks like the machine supports 2 stacks. And
 that's the simplest level of abstraction.

In this entire conversation I have not heard anyone mention that common
wisdom is that it is faster to get Forth running on new machine than waking up
a C compiler (or any of language compiler) for a new machine.

So TRUE or FALSE?
The process of using Forth to create a new Assembler, coding the primitives
and then using the primitives to cross compile a new Forth is REALLY the
fastest way to wake up new iron or is that an urban legend propagated in Forth 
circles ?
