Nicholson Baker's 1994 'Serious Literature' genre novel 
'The Fermata' takes that route,  The protag
uses it mostly as a way of indulging his sexual 
inclinations.

He makes the point, among other things, that transport
becomes a problem, and mainly uses motorcycles, which
can weave between all the stationary cars on the road.

During the hyperspeed sequence in that episode, there's
a heavenly choir singing. I've always wondered if that is
a pre-existing recording; I'd like to get a copy.
