You got it wrong -- the nucleus is about 10^5 times smaller than the size of an atom. The radius of a proton is about 1.3 femtometer, and a nucleus with A nucleons has a radius about A^(1/3) larger. > Disregard the number of protons/neutrons? Stupid question. While not completely "stupid", it is not easy to discuss "size" of quantum objects. At present there is no evidence for substructure in either quarks or leptons. Our best model, the standard model, considers quarks and leptons to be fundamental, pointlike objects with 0 radius. Its accuracy is evidence of the validity of that assumption. Tom Roberts
