Yes, in the standard model a proton has three valence quarks, and an antiproton has three valence antiquarks. But those valence (anti)quarks make up less than 10% of the mass of the (anti)proton. The rest of the mass is kinetic energy of the constituents, gluons, a few electroweak gauge bosons (gamma, W+-, Z), and many different particle/antiparticle pairs that are constantly "popping in and out of the vacuum" -- so ~ 90% of the mass is NEITHER matter nor antimatter, it is exactly balanced between them. The (anti)electrons of atomic (anti)matter are a much smaller portion of the mass than the valence quarks. That is why it is important to measure the behavior of antimatter in gravity to better than 1%; even the most optimistic estimate with "antimatter falling up" is at most a 10% effect for antihydrogen vs hydrogen. But in contrast, the muonium of our experiment is 100% antimatter. The experiment I am participating in is estimated to be able to measure gbar for muonium (a bound state of an antimuon and an antielectron) to about 0.1%. But it is a VERY challenging experiment, and we have not yet obtained significant funding, so work is progressing slowly. To obtain funding we have to convince ourselves, and some funding agency, that it is feasible (there is no doubt that it is interesting and worthwhile, _IF_ it is feasible). Experiments at the CERN antiproton accelerator expect to measure the behavior of antihydrogen in gravity to about 1%, in three or four years. In 2008 we wrote a paper on "Direct Observation Limits on Antimatter Gravitation": http://arxiv.org/abs/0808.3929 > I'm aware that particle physicists have been saying that the apparent imbalance between the amount of matter over antimatter can be traced to an observed CP violation in flavor-changing interactions. Actually, the currently-observed CP violation is many orders of magnitude too small to account for the imbalance observed. Tom Roberts
