Which are determined by the position of the Earth's orbit.  Counting
the phases of the Moon helps keep track of the timing of the seasons
within a single orbit of the Earth around the Sun.  Looking
at a paper calender gives an overview of the schedules of the
tasks which need to be done.  That why "first full moon after
crossing the n" is important.
