The command line and related tools Linux and UNIX offer are great... no
argument here. As far as X11 and the associated tools, for a desktop it does
not really impress me.

Have seen the first several that come up under such a search... was hoping
for something better. Thank you.

Correct. It is a Logitech MX518. Same software works with the G600, though.

I am still on the older v4. Will play with v5 and likely get it.

Agreed. I use the non-standard top buttons some, the scroll+press up and
down fairly often, and the previous / next buttons all the time... but I
cannot see the need for more. Still, to each their own.
