My compiler has an -old option, normally disabled. If modifying existing
source to fix things like:
int fn() {...}
is too onerous, or not practical (eg. not my code to modify), then using
-old will turn a blind eye to those, and enable the compiler to get past
such obstacles.
But where it is practical, then those changes will be made.
This is the opposite attitude to just pandering to all such bad design
decisions and encouraging people to (1) do nothing about existing code;
(2) continue coding using the same bad habits and thus perpetuating the
body of bad or dated code.
It doesn't need a change to the definition either; allowing labels as
statements rather than prefixes to statements, can be an extension.
