There are at least two reasons someone might prefer the OFF
choice in the #pragma. One is to retain compatibility with
earlier versions of the Standard, to ensure other compiler
environments will not have a problem. Two is to prevent
suspect uses that might otherwise arise by accident or
oversight. For example
switch(...){
...
case whatever:
char *p = ...;
...
...
}
Normally we would expect braces around code for the 'whatever'
branch of the switch(), so this looks like it is probably an
error. It would be nice if the compiler would flag it for
us, and choosing OFF in the #pragma would do that.
