People die by guns - soon it is likely to be more people dying by guns in the US than dying by cars... and cars are used a *lot* more. The idea of having reasonable laws to deal with this massive problem makes sense... and many reasonable gun owners accept this. Most of the general concepts are already on the books and have been deemed constitutional: background checks, limits as to what types of arms people can use (though sensible ones, not based on looks which is what "assault weapons" usually mean), holding people accountable for the weapons they own, etc. Not taking away the right to bear arms like the right-wing Christian terrorists were demanding as they defended the trespassing, thieving rancher in Nevada. > So it's no great coincidence that they were interested in pushing this issue > just prior to some tragedy.
