This CAN'T be right, because we KNOW from the running of P(P) that P(P)
does halt.

Yes, I have heard you, but have you actually read what I have written.
You CAN'T argue about the behavior of a P based on a different H because
that is a DIFFERENT Machine.
Since H WILL abort its simulation, it needs to make its decision based
on the knowledge that the copy it is simulating will do likewise, not
assume that it won't abort.
Yes, when you try to figure out what H could return in this case, you
find that there IS NOTHING it can return to be right. What this shows is
that a right H doesn't exist, not that the question is wrong.
You need to accept this, you don't get to change the question, not if
you want to make you answer applicable to the original.
