I also see the subscription scheme as annoying and think there should be
a one-time price for the current full version, with subscriptions
available for support and updates.  That's how most other software
products work, including the main commercial Forths if I understand
correctly.  Even if you have to raise prices to make up for lost
subscription revenue, a one-time price will likely lead to less customer
dissatisfaction.
