You do understand correctly.  However, you can use 8th in 'script mode',
e.g. invoke '8th your-script.8th' for as long as you want.  It's not a
standalone executable, but for applications you yourself use (or on a
server, etc) it is probably just as useful.

Tell me: would a "reduced version" (e.g. without the ability to create
encrypted binaries, perhaps without bluetooth support etc) of 8th be
something that would be attractive (at a one-time purchase, not a
subscription)?  Please contact me (at the email you know) to discuss
further if so.
