I've managed to use it to write perfectly functional C on (at least - I'm almost certainly forgetting some): CP/CMS, MVS, VMS, QDOS, SMS/2, Linux and a custom OS. That's the whole idea of an abstraction. I would not like to have had to learn the underlying OS calls for each of these, cope with the complexities of the file systems, and then written my own code.
