The problem is that it's not as hard to have some kind of utter rubbish published as someone may imagine. Actually, I guess that the more than half of the stuff printed nowadays is anything but reliable. Wikipedia has its policies, just as virtually any other serious (for certain definitions of the word) encyclopedia. My belief is that these policies work.
