If you don't want the draft to connect to the Internet, you are free to connect to your e-mail using POP3 which downloads everything and erases it from the server. Similarly, it doesn't send a draft until you are ready to do so. Until that time, it resides on your computer. Absolutely nothing is stored on the server itself, so it is a lot more secure albeit more cumbersome for archivists such as myself. If you are an archivist but want to remain secure, you can use a service like Posteo which encrypts absolutely all data, making it unreadable to anyone who doesn't have access to the private key.
