So I don't really know if I should bother to point out that his attempted counterpoint is weak: Android exists only because of Google's deep pockets and their own self-serving corporate interests. Frankly, there's no good reason for Android to have been built on Linux other than it was "good enough" with some of what they needed when they were on stuck with an aggressive delivery schedule. Firefox ... yeah, its been a pretty good browser. Does it shine though? Their product's business model relies on selling eyeballs via its default search engine to a company who relies on advertising, so they're in it for the money too. GCC relies on the FSF, which has a pretty small (~$1M/yr) budget to support all of its initiatives. The KDE has a charity style support model and a cadre of non-CMMI volunteers. Neither of which highlight anything whose processes are inherent to delivering superior quality code/products. As such, the point stands. -hh
