Forty-five years ago the most common DEC machine would have been
a PDP-11.  Some schools, most famously the one attended by Gates and Allen,
had terminals and subscribed to a PDP-10 timesharing service.  So it might have
been any one of those three possibilities.  Different college contemporaries of
mine experienced each one of those options.  The only direct computer exposure
I had in high school was getting to play with a programmable Wang desk
calculator in the chemistry lab.
