It's an obscure usage; in my experience meanings 1 and 2 are overwhelming the most common, but meaning 3 is a reasonable one in a CS context. SUB is in the ASCII character set, so it if you wish to use "alphabet" in that sense, SUB is in the alphabet on any system that supports ASCII. Cntl-Z is a key sequence, not a character, but in the appropriate contexts, it's a key sequence that can be used to generate that character. So, with that context in mind, what is the significance of your obscure comment which appears as the third paragraph of quoted text above? I'd normally guess that "bag of tells" was either a misspelling of "bagatelle", or a punning phrase meant to invoke that term - except that I can't figure out why you would be using that term in this context. Alternatively, the 2nd and 3rd noun meanings for "tell" listed at <https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tell> refer to things that, if stored in physical form such as printed text or a computer disk, could in fact be put in a bag, but I can't figure out what that could have to do with anything in this context, either.
