I find it highly unlikely that you want to learn.  If you would want to 
learn, you would not change pseudonyms as other people change shirts, so

Incorrect.  By convention, the gravitational potential is *negative* near 
the source (showing that gravity is an attracting force), and approaches 
zero (therefore, its maximum value) as the distance from the source 
approaches infinity.  (Probably someone has told you this before.  I 
remember to have posted in sci.physics the equation and diagram for 
gravitational potential already.)
