you keep saying that, and you're wrong, ever single time.

yes it does.

the fact that some of it may already be on the computer just means it
doesn't have to copy it *again*. that means it takes less time to
complete. users like that. 

this is standard fare for backup utilities. they check to see if the
backup has a copy of a given file already, and if it does, it skips to
the next file. that way it copies only the *changed* files.

if you consider itunes to not back up some files, then time machine and
superduper also do not back up either, since they too do not copy files
that are already copied. 

and since you like arguing for the sake of arguing, even time machine
and superduper don't back up *everything*. they skip a lot of stuff,
including cache files and other temporary files that can be recreated.
thus by *your* definition, there is no such thing as a backup.

syncing and backing up are interwoven. there is no clear distinction. a
sync includes a backup.

your confusion is because you think those are separate steps. they
aren't.

again, restore a new device from a previous backup (not called a
previous sync, and for good reason), and it restores music and movies.
