You think wrong.  I did grep for -> definitions, and saw these
definitions, and had no idea what they were about.  "Event" is a
pretty generic word, and this could have been about discrete event
simulation, or about GUI or about a bunch of other things.  It's
interesting that you call the defined words "message words", not
"event words"; MESSAGE: would probably not have made it much clearer,
though.

As for naming conventions, => or >> or --> would be alternatives to ->.

If "something" in "->something" corresponds to a channel, Go uses

<channel> <- <value>

for sending and

<- <channel>

for receiving.  XC uses 

<channel> <: <value>

for sending and

<channel> :> <var>

for receiving.  Occam uses

<channel> ! <value>

for sending and

<channel> ? <var>

for receiving.
