"The Ungoverned"'s Wil Brierson reminds me of pop culture's Frank Nitti.
Pop culture often portrays Nitti as an agent of Chicago's criminal
empire who remains above the dirty work.

"The Ungoverned" is only mystery in the sense that all story plot lines
are a mystery until the reader reaches the end of the story. But, it's
all good as Titus G mentions _Marooned in Realtime_ as the Vinge SciFi
mystery story.
