I certainly have not gotten anything yet for my papers, but then I am
paid by my institution; they did not get anything, either, though.
Academic publishing is a cool business model: You get the papers for
free (sometimes you even ask for page fees), the reviewing for free,
in some cases you "add value" by corrupting the papers in
meaning-changing ways (so you have a justification for demanding all
this money), and finally you charge big bucks to university libraries
who have to buy the results (plus additional bucks for online access,
as in this case).
ACM is relatively benign (their journals and proceedings are not that
expensive) compared to some others, though.
