that's a very slow charger and likely a dumb charger that doesn't sense
when the battery is fully charged.

improper charging is what degrades battery life. 

fast charging when done properly does not make a significant difference
in battery life and the batteries are cheap anyway so it doesn't really
matter. 

*really* fast charging (i.e., 15 minutes) can shorten life but the
apple charger doesn't do that.

the problem is that there are a lot of cheap chargers that do not sense
a full charge and overcharge the battery, which is what kills them (and
potentially can cause a fire). 

the better chargers have end of charge detection and stop charging (or
reduce to a trickle).

bullshit.

first of all, the charge protocol is the same so there's no point in
that and second, there's no way for it to know the difference anyway.
lsd batteries have thicker layers inside for a lower self-discharge.
otherwise they're the same.

the apple charger (as will any good charger) may reject batteries
because they've degraded or are defective (or not rechargeable at all),
but that has nothing to do with lsd or non-lsd. nowhere in the manual
for the apple charger does it say only lsd is supported.

i know far more about batteries and how to properly charge them than
