It may have been obvious to you -- to me, the more powerful an editor is
the more appropriate it is to call it "general".

No idea.  I've never had enough trouble locating my function definitions
to warrant doing anything extra to make it easier.  I'll frequently have
several windows open in an Emacs session, with one for the code I'm
currently editing and others with various .h files and the like.
