You need to differentiate between LibreOffice Base, the DataBase Management System (DBMS), and the OpenDocument Database format. > So, I'm looking for suggestions on another database engine. Your goal is to generate reports. Reporting, however, is _not_ a feature of a database *engine*. In the case of LibreOffice Base, it is a feature of the DBMS. See for example <http://help.fabasoftfolio.com/index.php?topic=doc/Configuration-of-Relational-Reporting/example-use-of-libreoffice-base-as-reporting-tool.htm> First find a (free) report generator that suits your purpose, then find a (free) DBMS that supports the (free) database engine that creates databases that you can access with your report generator and meet your requirements. Of the mentioned requirements, I presume MySQL (with InnoDB as engine), MariaDB (which is a MySQL fork; replaces InnoDB with XtraDB, and adds Aria as engine), and PostgreSQL all can meet them. I know it for certain for MySQL because I have worked with it for 14 years, and the InnoDB engine for about 10 years. The common acronym LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) also suggests that of those, MySQL would have the best support. I find it very easy to set up a LAMP stack on GNU/Linux. You might like MariaDB better than MySQL because it is less Oracle. In principle, every software that works with MySQL 5.0 should support the MariaDB features that both have in common. But I may not be as easy to set up. (I have not tried yet.) See <news:comp.databases.mysql> for more on both. PostgreSQL, by contrast to MySQL and MariaDB, is an Object-Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and might be a bit of an overkill in your case. (I have not worked with it yet so I cannot say more about it.) See <news:comp.databases.postgres> for more. I am not aware that MySQL or MariaDB have reporting capabilities, however there is reporting software that can access databases created with these DBMSes. -- PointedEars Twitter: @PointedEars2 Please do not Cc: me. / Bitte keine Kopien per E-Mail.
