and after you give up, you go off on a rant about how whatever you
wanted to do is not possible (despite people explaining how) and how
apple users give up (which they don't, because they're doing exactly
what they just suggested).

nope.

find a laptop with the *same* specs (as close as possible) and prices
will be similar.

there are cheaper laptops, but that's because the specs are lower. 

there are also more expensive laptops than apple, such as the microsoft
surfacebook or a chromebook pixel, and the specs aren't actually that
much better, if at all.
