  I'm sure they are and do. I don't think any sane person is going to

  I've never had such problems, but I fully agree that the Windows
update mechanism is a gigantic PITA.

  Don't get me started! An early W10 upgrade was forced on me, because
there was no bail-out option. Took me many hours till I again had a
clean 8.1 system.

  AFAIK, LSWMBO has the same experience. She never talks about it, but
why would she talk about a non-event!? :-)

  Yeah, if Apple would make/sell low(er) end smart-phones and tablets,
this world would be a better place!

  For me, the premium (of having to buy a very high end device) is not
worth it, also because it would take an immense amount of time to figure
out which software is suitable and comparable (or 'better') to my
current software, learning to use it, configuring it, etc., etc.. But
that's just *my* situation, for others their MMV and probably their MWV.
