no they don't. applecare is tied to the machine once it's registered.
the original applecare box or receipt is not needed, ever.

the big downside to buying on ebay is it's easy to be scammed. it's
possible to get a good deal, but you must be *very* sure that the
applecare is valid and has not been used. it's safest if you get an
original unopened box, not a code emailed to you, because scammers can
create fake applecare codes which will actually register but when it
comes time to get the machine serviced, it's void.
