I agree with both of you: mutual understanding should be the goal, and while a preference for the language used in the standard is certainly fine, there are unfortunately several examples around here of the type of person who favors pedantic attention to detail over that kind understanding. My own view is that this is not useful, and actively harmful. It certainly does not paint those posters in a positive light, as they appear to be more concerned with the minutia of the standard's phrasing than they are with its content, and are wholy unconcerned with usefully conveying anything of substance to a reader. Fixation on minor details feels like an excuse to find fault with a poster, then used to refrain from deeper engagement with whatever point they are raising, even if it is well considered and thoughtful. That's not holding conversation to a standard of quality; it is simplistic and reductive. - Dan C.
