In most cases it's as simple as unpacking the archive, changing to that root
directory and doing..
./configure
make
make install
The make install step will require root access but it is not always necessary
depending on what you want to do. If you run into dependency issues (not
likely with slrn) that will take more time to work out.
Give that a try and see..
