We were discussing the implications of phones with and without sd hardware.
Arno & I simply put different weights on what the sdcard does & doesn't do.
My point about "opportunity cost" is from a marketing standpoint.
a. The opportunity cost of including an SD card slot is
vastly higher than omitting it.
b. Omitting the slot allows the brand to capture high-margin internal
storage upgrades, transition customers into lucrative recurring cloud
subscriptions, protect brand equity from poor user experiences caused
by slow memory cards and maintain cleaner industrial designs.
c. The revenue and ecosystem retention gained by removing the slot
overwhelmingly eclipses the marginal sales lost from power-users
demanding physical expandability.
In summary, from a marketing standpoint, the opportunity cost of including
an SD card slot is vastly higher than omitting it.
Omitting the slot allows the brand to capture high-margin internal storage
