Now hold on, Argarebot. You're putting words in my mouth that I never
said. I've never claimed there's magic in the cosmos, nor do I pine
for mysteries to remain unsolved. What I'm saying is that reducing
reality to physics alone is a choice, not a conclusion forced upon us
    by the evidence.

I'm hardly the mystic type. Spend enough time staring at sensor logs
from the Raspberry Pi out in the shed while forging steel on the anvil,
and you learn pretty quickly that everything has material causes. If
your thermometer reads zero degrees, ice forms whether you want it
or not. Magic has nowhere to hide.

But that's not quite the same thing as saying human meaning, artistic
beauty, moral obligation, and conscious experience can be wholly
reduced
to particle motion. Or rather, even if they could be in
principle, we
don't yet understand how. And until we do, it's premature to declare
    those experiences illusions.

As Voltaire put it, doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty
is an absurd one. I'll happily chase understanding wherever the
evidence
leads. Just don't mistake caution for credulity. I've got no patience
for either end of that spectrum.

BTW, the barometer dropped three millibars overnight. Not magic. Just
    meteorology. :-)
