I had this problem with my Samsung. My daughter formatted the disk for me.

So I can record items from the TV and play them back - and frequently do. They
are, however, encrypted and cannot be played elsewhere.

But I have never had need to write to the disk from my iMac. Why do you? Daft
question, perhaps, but the answer may open up a whole new world of adventure
for me.
