OP here: finishing up:

Thanks to those who pointed out that "Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon"
_does_ format a disk as NTFS. (I had had difficulty spotting the crucial word
"format" on their web pages).

I downloaded it for a trial. Fired up Disk Utility, and "MNTSF" had appeared
in the options for formatting. Did that. Wrote a file to the disk, inserted it
in our telly ... and it didn't show. I concluded (perhaps wrongly) that MNTSF
does a little bit extra which rendered the disk unacceptable to the telly.

Got a friend who has a PC to format the disk as a bogstandard Windows NTSF
disk. Was able to write the videos on my Mac to that disk: I presume because
MNTSF has enabled this to my system (as stated by Paragon).

The telly can read this bogstandard NTSF disk, so we were in business, to
start watching some more "Severance".

Concluded that Severance really isn't for us: we could barely understand the
episode plots, even after reading the summaries in Wikipedia. And (worst) it's
going nowhere: Season THREE is only starting to be shot now. Obviously Apple
TV concur with the younger generation and think it's great. Me: I have better
things to do with my shrinking time upon this earth!

So: I don't need Microsoft NTFS for Mac by Paragon, and I've reached this
conclusion within the free 10-day trial time: thanks!

AJ
