I see nothing wrong with your setup, but I don't see an advantage either. Except probably a bigger 'Barred' number memory. I use my bedside handset as an alarm clock, and if the Intruder/Fire alarm goes off, I have the 'phone right there with me. Horses for courses. -- Davey.
