Where I live, a wire on the light switch is loose.
And switching the thing, moves materials around enough
to cause an intermittent.
You can also check the condition of the contact that
touches the bulb. With incandescent bulbs, the contacts
had tin/lead solder, and that has pretty good contact properties.
Whereas for the LED lamps, they don't absolutely need to
use solder on the end of the bulb, so it's just a metal contact.
While a multimeter is somewhat useful for a few electrical
problems, the screw-in bulb is not a real safe place to work.

When I picked up some bulbs at Home Depot, there were some
screw in extenders for bulbs.

Using one of those, you can place the tips (carefully!)
of a multimeter on the top AC voltage range, into the two
outlet contacts on one side of the extender. This helps
avoid a tricky entry point, to probing *inside* the
screw outlet. You don't want to be doing that.
And if you can use a multimeter safely on a house wall
outlet two pinholes, then the outlet on the bulb extender
can also be used for a voltage-is-present check.
But otherwise, it could be a screw on the lightswitch isn't
touching the wire. Or, the wire has snapped (even inside some
insulation), and that is causing an intermittent.
Your breaker, if malfunctioning, could also play a part.
And again, be careful where you're probing, to prove the line
coming from the breaker panel, is "properly live".
You can get outlet testers with neon bulbs, which are
better than nothing for a test. Whereas a multimeter
tells you whether you have a faulty neutral, and one
side of the mains power coming into the house could be
higher than the other side.

Branch circuits can be on one side or the other, and that
is one reason you don't want to "bring branch circuits together"
using extension cords from two different rooms.
Summary: While it is "fun" to debug household circuits,
it's also pretty dangerous. Ideally, you debug serially,
working from one point to another and checking to see if
you have voltage. Not many situations leave conductors exposed
for easy test.
