I might have used them temporarily on Windows 95 to fix some problems. but as I mainly went from Windows 3.1 to NT, those were rare occasions. As to "Maybe if using the old DOS console.": I spent a very large portion of my time in Command Prompt windows and never use short names there either. Probably my being used to Unix/UNIX, made me drop short names in Windows as soon as I could.
