It would make sense if you said, for example, “a room filled with hydrogen *gas*”; then the hydrogen *gas* would be the medium. From which follows, because we can see stars and between us and them there is virtually *nothing*, that light travels through (interstellar) vacuum. You can then either say that the vacuum is the medium (as conceptually it is the thing between light source and observer), or that light does not require a medium.
