I am having cooling problems with a Dell XPS laptop.
As far as I can tell the fan isn't running (which is the opposite to the
main problem of the fan being too noisy).

I will be investigating further, but this has made me consider a laptop
cooler.

Does anyone use one, or know of a good brand?

13" laptop.

Cheers

Dell Support Assist diagnostics (or diagnostics available from the boot
menu) may be able to detect if there is actually a problem with the fan
(s).

I doubt a cooling stand will be sufficient to avoid internal
overheating.

Useful tip: to access the boot options menu, in a terminal window,
type:
shutdown /r /o /t 0
... and it'll take you there.

Ran support assistant and it found loads of firmware updates but didn't
report any hardware problems.
I took the back off the laptop and then spun the fan a couple of times and
it then started spinning on its own.
Weedy looking thing at the end of a long heat sink (at least that was what
I think it was; was getting hot).

I am now trying out a Tecknet cooler and we shall see how it goes.

The fan still isn't spinning fast enough to be audible.
Not that I recall it ever being audible.

Anyway it is working in a limited way at the moment so I will try and
track if it is overheating.

Couple of days I will never get back.

Cheers

Speccy seems quite good at reporting temperatures.

This Tecknet cooling pad seems to be doing the business.
Cool as a cucumber now.

Cheers
