I think you have obsessed long enough over Mt Baldy; let's try a new
mountain like Mount San Jacinto.

There you will find the Palm Springs Tramway, the world's largest
rotating tramcar going from the Cachella Valley at 2.643 feet to near
the top of Mount San Jacinto (10,834 feet) at 8,516 feet.

Once there you can enjoy 4 star dining with a magnificant view of the
Cachella Valley and Palm Springs in the Peaks Restaurant.

If $36 for a New York steak and $10 for a salad are to pricey for you,
there is the Pines Cafe where you can get Pizza and sandwiches or
the Lookout Lounge for a liquid meal.

As the temperature difference is typically 30 degrees F, be sure to
bring a jacket, $5 for parking, and $23 for your senior discount
tram ticket.

Stop at Morongo Casino and lose what money you have left; it is easy
to find, it is the huge building towering above everything.

Here is another idea. It won't help LA smog, but it's a good idea anyway:

Mount Whitney is 14,495 feet (elevation at the top.)
Mount Rainier is 14,405 feet.

I think we should pile rocks on top of Ranier to make it taller than Whitney.

It would only take 91 feet of rocks. Let's do it!

Mount Rainier deserves to be the highest mountain in the lower 48. It
can be seen in its majesty from downtown Seattle.

Mount Whitney is a wimpy little bump on a ridge. I defy you to spot it.

There is a mailing tube mounted on a post in front of the Ranger
Station in Lone Pine CA. If you get down on your knees and peep
through the tube, you can tell which of those little bumps is Mount
Whitney — piddling!

A worthwhile project for the Cascades Section of the Sierra Club.

Is it close to Baldy?Does it do Summer Business? How far up can you drive? Can I pick up rocks? Can you park overnite? My new camera takes great pictures.I slept on Revere Beach for 4 years and watched the Sun come up out of the ocean. It is breath taking. TreBert

Mt Baldy is about 85 miles from San Jacinto, but I would think you would be
more interested in the distance from Anaheim, which is about 90 miles.

You can drive to the tram station on the desert floor.

There is no camping there.

Then go to Big Bear Lake; camping, temps in the 60's, and the Octoberfest
runs until the end of the month.

You will like Big Bear Lake as actual things have happened there.

Besides the annual Octoberfest held in the highest Biergarten in the U.S,
parts of Last of the Mohicans, Bonanza, Daniel Boone, Gone with the Wind,
Old Yeller and Paint Your Wagon were filmed there.

Boxers Oscar de la Hoya, Mike Tyson, Fernando Vargas and Shane Mosley
trained there.

There are also trout, among other fish, in the lake.

I have been snowed in most of my life.Lucky me for I went west and Boston had 9 feet of snow.Years ago when I flew in to LAX in a daytime flight you could get a nice view of Big Bear. Most of my sailboats were built for lakes. My latest is for very big waves.I tested it out at Huntington Beach, and it road the surfing waves very well indeed. It has great positive bouyancy TreBert

On a long weekend no cars on the road for 7 days.No planes.Nothing that burns. Do it at Christmas as a clean air gift to the millions of children in Orange, and LA county. Its worth trying. TreBert
