It also failed with .WMV and .WMA, even though I'm a big fan of .WMA Pro myself as it provides exceptional sound quality. I do agree that Microsoft makes significant efforts to replace standards with their own and it's one of the reasons I encourage people to use open standards rather than whatever the operating system itself pushes. It's just too bad that these open formats (other than .FLAC anyway), rarely get hardware support. -- Slimer

Most often they bring to the table new ideas for IEEE committees, ISO, and ANSI committees. These ideas are then discussed. If the ideas are approved then the committees write the new standards. And another fact... they don't have a monopolistic position. Notice how OS X even makes an intelligent guess as to what text I might want - and it is rarely wrong (which does not mean never!) Owl, on seeing this, did come back with a different task: to go to allrecipes.com and save them all as PDFs. Why one would want to do this I am not sure, but it could be modified to, say, download all chocolate chop recipes or something and, hey, it was a fun task so I took it on. It took a while to develop but it does the job well. The problem with the web is a lack of uniform formatting (and of course the idiotic javascript). But much can still be automated with simple tools.

Heck, since I emailed you before I did something similar with a screenshot. Earlier today ran into a bug and made a quick video showing it to the developer. He got back to me already (on a Sunday no less!) and asked about some permissions (one from a system that is working and one from one that it is not). I got the screen shots and made quick edits. The edits were done right in Mail. Could have done them in Adobe Reader or Preview or the like and then saved or copied them and brought them to Mail.
