Poor John says MM "So how is your cartoon coming along? " Thank for asking. I restarted after 34 frames because the sequence wasn't right. Then, I restarted after 37 frames because the sequence still wasn't right. Now I'm at 16 frames, and the sequence is perfect. ------------ So you're not plugging in known observational data. Instead you use the buckshot approach until you stumble upon something you find pretty. You're not exactly the poster boy for science, are you John?

That's what you get for going off and starting to generate your cartoon without even having a model to go by.

And you're talking about a visual pretty to boot, which is different than the esthetic senses of scientists. Just a thought, John: Just because YOU personally have certain tastes and beliefs does not make them more special or more "right". Consider that how you think and what you consider important might be valuable in some endeavors, but may be poorly suited to science. There's this thing called aptitude, which is really about alignment between a person's way of thinking and the activity being considered. If there is not good alignment, then you don't have good aptitude for that particular activity. This is not a personal slam, it just means you have not chosen wisely the activity that you have good aptitude for. Consider the possibility that visually "pretty" may be useful in industrial design or architecture or any number of fine arts, but that it is essentially useless and of little consequence in science. Then, if what's important to you is that anything you make is visually "pretty", then you might not be doing anything valuable for the advancement of science. Also please note that the things that ARE precious to scientists are things you find boring and of no personal value to you. This is why you ignore them and don't find them worth pursuing. So bottom line is this: Why aren't you doing something with your time that you have an aptitude for? -- Odd Bodkin -- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Odd "In science, I wouldn't be making things on the basis of beauty or ugliness at all. It's not the right standard for science at all. " Well alls I know is I chose an order and went to 34 frames and it was ugly and then it didn't work, and then I laid it out on paper and took the first one that worked, and went to 37 frames and it was also ugly, and then I went back and tried more examples on the paper until I found the best one, and now I'm at 46 frames and it's been beautiful the whole way. I'm stoked!

Odd " or do you want to be a scientist doing scientific work about sciencey things? " Which lets out beauty? Many of your equations are beautifully elegant. Is the shortest answer better in math?

Odd, odd, Odd "No, not necessarily" I recall having to reduce our math answers tu their simplest possible form, under threat of losing marks. I also recall losing marks for not providing -2 as a possible square root of 4. In a French lycée. In 1966. In Aix-en-Provence. Good times. Mobylette. Trips to Cassis. But I digress.

That's because that's a skill to learn. It's not a statement that things are ugly unless you don't. Music students practice scales until they bleed too. That doesn't mean the best music is sets of scales. > I also recall losing marks for not providing > -2 as a possible square root of 4. In a > French lycée. In 1966. In Aix-en-Provence. > Good times.
