Rainer Beck has observed magnetic fields in
galaxies where a helical field is present in
the main arms.
This blows to shit Odd and MM's assertions
that galactic arms are not entities.

Get used to it, guys.
YOUR sky is falling.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Clearly, spiral arms are entities, the question is 'are they transient or are they permanent?' It will be a while before this is nailed down, but in either case there is no reason that there shouldn't be a magnetic field... or do you know better than the rest of the scientific community?

So explain how anything is "blown to shit" by that. Oh that's right, you
never explain anything, you just pull crap like that from your ass and
post it.

Galactic arms are obviously "entities", but are transient entities.
They're standing waves of star density as stars orbit the galactic
center.

Oh, so the helical magnetic field is transient, too?
As is the IMF?
Penny. Drop.

It will change as the arms change, as stars enter and leave them.

No, Michael.
The field contains the stars.

The Interplanetary Magnetic Field
contains the planets-all exactly at its axis.
You think the planets can "enter and leave"?

No, John, that's crap. The planets are held in orbit by gravity, not
any magnetic field. Same is true for the stars in the arms, they are
held in orbit by gravity.

As each star has its own orbit, they move independently of each other
and will move into and out of the arms when their own times come.

We also know this because of the measured motion of nearby stars. If
galactic arms were fixed, nearby stars (in the same galactic arm as the
sun) would not move relative to the sun (us), yet we can measure their
motion, some toward us, some away, some sideways.

Of course they can!

Your basic laws of physics explains how and why in exquisite detail.

Not that I am aware.
Almost all the interactions between celestial objects can be described using simple Newtonian physics.

You can't remember your position on whether
galactic arms are distinct entities?

What I said, John, is this:
- There are a lot of galaxies that have no arms at all because they are
not spiral galaxies. This causes a problem for someone who says that
electrons are like the arms of galaxies and atoms are like galaxies.
- Galactic arms are in direct contact with the visible galactic core in
spiral galaxies. Since the visible core has to be either matter or
antimatter, there's going to have to be at least one arm that has the
opposite character (antimatter or matter) and at the point of contact
between the arm and the core there would necessarily be characteristic
gamma rays which are in fact not observed. This causes a problem for
someone who says that galactic arms alternate between matter and antimatter.
- The stars that make up a galactic arm migrate from arm to arm. This
poses another problem for someone who says that one arm is antimatter
and the next arm is matter.
- You say the space between arms is because matter and antimatter repel.
But positronium is a case where matter and antimatter do not repel, and
in fact they do the opposite, which might cause a conflict with your
idea of adjacent arms staying separated.

You'll see that I've listed at least four major problems with your
galactic arm idea, any one of which is an obvious direct hit, and at no
point did I need to say anything about them being distinct entities or not.
