There is a boundary between those dead cells and the air, John. The surface of those cells. Not the cells themselves. I want you to try REALLY hard to think about what a surface is. The surface of a block of stainless steel is the BOUNDARY BETWEEN the steel and the air. The surface of a pool table is not the felt. It's the boundary between the felt and the air. If you keep looking for some solid thing you can point to and say, "That's the boundary," then you haven't got the idea, because a solid thing is never a boundary. It HAS a boundary, but the solid thing is not the boundary itself. Do you know what a boundary is, John? It's a common English word. > > Same for any "2D" surface. > Get your head out of that book. > Use your eyes and your brain. > -- Odd Bodkin --- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

I still remember a description in some geometry book, of a certain mathematical function in 3D (z=f(x,y)) which was vaguely funnel-shaped, and with z(0,0) being negative infinity. It could be proven to have a finite volume but infinite surface area. It was jokingly described that you could fill it with paint but you couldn't paint it. Let that blow the minds of Seto and John.

Obviously its a just a joke but its based on a flawed assumption that paint molecules are infinitely small. How could you fill it with paint, when the internal funnel shape becomes too small to accomodate the size of the paint molecules ?

Very unlikely, so you won't be able to notice the interaction between space and time. Meanwhile, while you were looking whether Mickey's big hand and little hand, muons were screaming by (and through) you at nearly c. Despite the fact that they were created high in the atmosphere and live for only 2.2 microseconds, they were able to reach you due to how space and time interacted to dilate the time/foreshorten the distance (depending on the reference frame you choose) and they reach you. If they carried little watches, you most definitely could see the interaction of space and time on them.

Odd Between the bumpy cover and the bumpier specimen, there are gadzillion gaseous atoms bumping around. There is an imaginary plane. Is that what you mean?

Most of the time I've made a slide you remove the gas by putting a liquid in there, if necessary. It seems to me that you're trying to tell me that boundaries don't exist between things. Is that what you're trying to say? If so, out with it, man. If it helps, consider the bumpy boundary between the glass cover and the region where the gadzillion gaseous atoms can roam.
