I'll take my chances with them. Actually Hardblow, Science says you are doing the right thing as fasting puts your body into a mode where it better eliminates poisons of all kinds. Key is to keep from starving while maintaining the fasting mode. As for praying cancer away, prayer and such psychosomatic cures (placebos and the like) all depend on strong belief on the part of the patient the lack of which in your case makes such attempts a total waste of time.

I said no politely, but after a while I said yes because she was so nice and sincere. I must say it did nothing for me, but it didn't hurt and it seemed to give her pleasure and a purpose in life. I suppose I could have done the same with the prayer people but the old lady didn't try to invoke any paranormal hogwash.

She and the others in her group did weekly visits to the local hospitals to "cure" the ill. They really believe it works and that they are doing good, but I would bet on the chemo and radiation. -- Jim Pennino

There is a very famous case of psychosomatic cancer cure. There was this guy with "uncurable" terminal cancer. At the time all the papers were talking about some new "wonder" cure like Krebiozen or something similar. So his doctor having no real options made a big deal of giving it to him. And lo next thing you know he's in remission and cancer is totally gone! But then papers started having stories reporting that the wonder drug was a fraud and the next thing you know he's got the cancer back. So his doctor concocts a story about how it was a STORAGE problem with the original drugs and you needed FRESH drugs for it to work and then (get this) gives him sugar pills as the "New" cure. And again the cancer goes totally into remission and disappears! But eventually the guy figured out the scam and confronted the doctor who confessed to the tale. And like that, soon the cancer was back and the guy dies! It remains one of the classic cases of placebo cures.

Michael I know Odd plays pool. Maybe you do, as well. Imagine throwing a dart at a dartboard, and trying to hit exact Center. You have to be pretty good to do that every time, hey? Well, if you don't hit the cue ball in its exact Center, with the cue, the ball will pick up spin, depending on where, off-Center, the cue hits the ball. And spin makes balls curve and influences their interactions with each other, and the cloth, and the rag (bumper). Oh-oh. You have a problem. You have no idea what spin the ball picks up going out. It automatically gets top from rolling on the cloth, but if you didn't stroke through that exact Center line- which is very hard to do- it could go right OR left. You don't know. What would be a good solution to this problem, Michael, that would improve our chances, here? Let's see your mental acuity.

Michael There are several things the cue-striker can do to improve his accuracy, here. Obviously, practice. Let's assume a set error-bar on the side-to-side (and up or down). What else? What can you think of?

" Yes. Assume perfect roundness and grabbiness of tip. You think that on point of impact and through the strike zone, you can make the cue travel straight through the Center?

If you were going to draw the ball, you would pull the stroke so that the tip of the cue never passes through the original center of the cue ball. By that time, the cue ball has left the tip anyway. It's only on slow, pushed strokes with a fair amount of topspin that the follow-through would have an impact on the ball, as you know. -- Odd Bodkin --- maker of fine toys, tools, tables

Mike said "Maybe deliberately hit it off center with a known amount of spin/curve. " Bingo. You win. Weight is also factored in. Choosing one curve or the other halves your uncertainty.
