I think there's more around because of the fad created to use only
cold water for washing clothes.  Washing bedding in hot water is a
good thing.

  People used to hang bedsheets to dry in the sun, too. UV kills bedbugs and their eggs really well.

  Try that nowadays and your friendly neighborhood HOA will fine you.

You haven't been paying attention.  There's close to an epidemic
w.r.t. bed bugs.  They've even been found in new mattresses.

What's really weird around here is that the video shown during
the news about a new infestation doesn't show real bed bugs
but some beetles about the size of a ladybug crawling around.

Yup. Some suburbs around here have strict rules that all clothes hung 
outside must be behind the house and not visible from the street. Same 
goes for all campers and RVS that must be parked behind the house. And 
you thought that YOU owned your own house.

Bedbugs can take heat, however. It takes like 120 degrees to kill them. 
They can also survive below zero temperatures. Most things that kill 
them are contact killers (like isopropyl alcohol or diatomaceous earth) 
so they tend to not be so effective because bugs crawl back into cracks 
and worse like ants follow the same path over and over through a 
minefield. The only really effective safe killer is DDT which is now 
banned. DDT had eliminated bed bugs from the US but now there are major 
infestations in a number of places. I heard that some people in NYC have 
started buying illegal DDT from drug dealers!

Hmmm!  I wonder what DDT is going for on the streets these days?  I wonder.  Could that old can of it that I remember be hidden in one of my boxes of packed away stuff I recovered from my storage locker?

I have a friend that fucked himself up with gross misuse of chlordane
and has permanent neurological damage among other problems.

We have to be very careful. What am I trying to say is, that we have a 
responsibility here. To protect the human conscientiousness. I'm not 
saying to cover things up, and not to disclose the truth. But to ask the 
question, who will benefit from that kind of Machiavean, Good and Bad 
Alienism Paradigm? And from the daemonisation of one group and exaltation 
of another ET group? Wouldn't that bring us to same dynamics here on 
Earth, that got us to the brink of Armageddon?

I used chlordane it to kill ants and yellow jackets at our house.  It worked!  I had no ill effects.  

My father's brother got crabs and dusted his privates with DDT!  It worked.  No ill effects.  No Dr. bills.

Yeah it works.

His problem was he applied orders of magnitude more than the recommended
dose to the crawl space under his house. Some months later he started
feeling "funny" and blood tests confirmed he had dosed himself both
during the application and with the stuff getting into the living space.

During WWII the troops were regularly dusted with DDT to control lice
and the spread of typhus. DDT is not nearly as bad as a lot of people
seem to think when properly used.

Some African nations are concidering telling the first world to fuck off
and start producing their own DDT to control malaria.

Kerosene is one thing that gets bed bugs but it's smelly and leaves oily 
mess over everything. OK on things like metal bed frames though.

Of course the problem with nasty chemicals is that humans won't be 
reasonable with them and just use them to kill things like bed bugs or 
malaria mosquitoes. No, the GOPer Chemical companies soon are spreading 
it around the country by the TON and people are dusting their babies 
with it. Wonder if Tang kills crabs?
