The person designing the toilet will likely use one of the off the shelf microcontrollers designed for such applications, all of which support integer arithmetic, and some of which only support integer arithmetic with their high level application language. As Ben and Jim pointed out earlier, very few humans code at the IEEE### levels. Computational Physics, Numerical Analysis, great topics both, weren't really about FP accuracy. Not explicitly, anyway. IME, they were about estimating and improving algorithms' turn around time, so math. Not in the Physics/Engineering departments per my experience. I took and even passed CFD (Computaional Fluid Dynamics) only to be painfully forced to use corporate provided applications. I hated that, both the pain and the force. Anyhow... For some reason, it was always better to be less, for that turn around time thing. This embedded system will require floating point. Whether or not such a system actually exists now is irrelevant (I myself do not know for sure). But such a system certainly COULD exist and most likely WILL exist.

I find watching a machine do what it supposed to do while running the code I wrote to tell it how to function the most satisfiying type of programming no matter what the CPU is. I too enjoyed that part of my job immensely. I used to program microprocessors to run elevators and the best part was giving an owner desired features never before possible with relay logic.
