While that is true, for example Johannes Kepler (16th century CE) already

As I understand it, as it is, the Moon's spin rate is such that the
same hemisphere of the Moon always points towards the Earth. Tidal
Locking or synchronous rotation. Therefore, we never see the farside
from the ground. Hence the idiom 'The Dark Side Of The Moon.' That the
word 'dark' is a multifaceted homonym... well good luck to busybodies
Engineers/Scientists/Physicists/... == ESP who would aspire to change
homonymity within English. Then they ought fiddle with Chinese/Hindi/...
